In college I went to the same Mexican place every day for a burrito, got the same coffee at the same Dunkin’ Donuts every morning Years later im in a new area following the same philosophy, I eat a chicken bruschetta wrap at the same place every time I go out for lunch and still get the same coffee at the same local Dunkin’ Donuts every morning. I frequent the same full service gas station, go to the same mechanic, Kevin, buy groceries from the same local mart, get my hair cut by the same barber, buy any and all hardware misc from the same little hardware store, Jeds. When your order gets prepared the second you walk in, and you have a relationship with your daily’s, your life is in a better place.

this life can be so isolating at times, both physically and mentally , especially when moving to a new city. but these relationships you build, the familiarity you create with another human being in your day to day life are often beacons of light

"Hi Matt" and "Bye Matt" is what the manager said to me at my local coffee shop when I came and left this morning. And when I come to the counter, they know: "double shot espresso with an inch of water."

as a barista at a local/fam owned coffee shop, the regular baddies are who make my job worth going to <3

Truly my favorite thing about living in a place.

Being a regular is the sickest. This bagel place I‘ve been ordering pick up orders from recently has started realizing it’s the same guy. I love it. They know my name now.

Something about this makes me smile; I do this with what I wear every day. I'm wearing clothing out until I have to patch them or throw them out... We are creatures of habit and I think that is good for us... I film and take a lot of photos out in nature, and it's amazing watching animals- they have the same 'mindset'... well, not with dressing but where they get food, where they place, etc!

I had something similar happen at the dunkin in the tiny town I lived in for a bit - I would walk in and the girl would only ask hot or iced? I loved the small talk- hearing about her wedding plans, knowing I was just as much a part of her Saturday morning routine as she was mine. I think of her often, same with the woman at 7/11 and every deli man

I totally agree with this. There's a pizza place by me that I have been going to my whole life and honestly, they take care of their regulars. There's nothing better than that (The only negative thing is that the owners are selling it so there will be some changes :(.)

I love when the bartender at the 99 silently places a 22oz Bud Select in front of me without me asking like I'm in The Neon Skyline by Andy Shauf

I have lived with my family in a small—ish tourist town in Northern New Hampshire for over a decade. It’s busy often here because it’s a tourist spot…but it’s certainly nowhere near being able to be described as a “bustling metropolis.” As such, I’ve calibrated my existence into very much the same configuration as you’re discussing in your rec and I couldn’t be happier for it. It feels very Twin Peaks/David Lynch. Almost like a surreal iteration of Andy Griffith Show or Cheers where you walk into a local business and LITERALLY “everyone knows your name.” So comfy.

There are so many new restaurants, bars, places to hang, etc... that it can be overwhelming. Not only that, it's expensive to go out and rolling the dice on a shitty dinner just isn't worth it anymore. I have about 1/2 dozen spots I love and there more or less the only places I eat. Not only do I know I'll get a fantastic meal, but I know my money is going to buds & places that I want to stay open.

Don’t get me wrong I love trying a new place, but I’m not gonna be a sheep and just constantly exclaim “I love trying new places!!” Because I also love the places I’ve been to many times, and know the whole menu, and recognize the waiters etc. etc.

Biiiiig fan of having a Place you always go, a Place where you’ve tried most things on the menu, a Place where you can recognize all the workers and almost have your punchcard fully filled out. A Place where you have a favorite booth and least favorite stool because it wobbles a little. if my life were a sitcom and they could only build so many sets, this Place would definitely be one of them
