I need single use devices to come back, please ‼️‼️ like I recently bought a camera that was like $50, and it’s not the best but it’s just so fun carrying it around and taking photos and not being able to see them until I can get them developed, it adds so much more charm and meaning to it somehow, and like voice recorders, I found one at the thrift store and like I just be talking into it randomly with my thoughts or rants, and it’s feels so much easier than using my phone or ig it’s just the illusion of it having the sole purpose of that, idk but I think they’re cool and also helps me so much with staying away from my phone and rotting

i might just be romanticizing a lack of phone and a fall back into old ways of analogue (the y2k version of that anyway) a part of me wants to quit using my phone as much, add some intention to my picture taking and the way i interact with the world. but another part of me says i don’t need to buy another thing to fulfill that need.

Without sounding like a bitter luddite, I miss the days of people capturing moments for the sake of remembering, not sharing with strangers. We all have childhood VHS footage and disposable photos of seemingly mundane moments at family BBQs, birthday parties, vacations, etc, but in the iPhone age most of our photos are taken with the intention of posting. This is a crucial difference, for me at least, so I recommend getting a camera not because it takes better photos than your phone, but because it'll remind you to capture more regular slices of life.

i found a box of my parent’s photos from when they first started dating to their wedding and around when i was born and made me realize: 1. there is so much more life to live!! and i hope i can look back on my 20’s with the same fondness they do 2. how nice it is to have physical photos - i never go through my camera roll but i love revisiting old journals or scrapbooks and i think printing photos would have the same effect. i find that the phone camera effect almost makes taking pictures feel more disposable or practical rather than artistic (for me personally, ik a lot of people who have really nice camera rolls on their phones) so maybe getting a camera or just thinking about memory capture differently would aim me in this direction
