Recently I’ve been obsessed with the movie 3 iron. it’s written and directed by Kim Ki-duk and it’s absolutely mesmerized me. Most of the film has no dialogue but when I was watching it at first I didn’t even notice. The emotion and suspense is entirely carried by the narrative and the acting. It’s a movie that really captures my focus when I watch it and it’s definitely one that I like to rewatch to reanalyze what I think is going on. Romantic, eerie, kinda comforting 10/10.

in 2020 i set out to watch at least a film a day. spoiler: i didn't. i did managed to get just over 250 under my belt, which was a lot more than i thought possible given that i was working 44h a week at the time. one of the 34 films i watched in april (look, i was working remotely during that month. there's a lot o can accomplish when no one's watching me do my thing and i don't have to spend two hours a day on a bus) was certified copy. i wasn't familiar with kiarostami's work. i saw it on richard ayoade's criterion closet video and decided to give it a chance. To be quite honest i wasn't really impressed during the first half of it. but halfway through it i felt like someone had flipped a switch in my brain. it's a very particular scene; you'll know it when you watch it. it starts as a wonderful conversation on the meaning of originality, and then evolves into an exploration on the main characters' relationship, dancing on the line between fact and fiction. kiarostami was a master on the art of dialogue and metalanguage, and certified copy is just another example of it (check out the koker trilogy if you love this kind of stuff). it kickly became my favourite film, and every time i rewatch it i spend a few hours processing it.

my favorite movie of the last ~decade, from my favorite filmmaker. I think this is one of the most riveting films in recent memory, so dark, moody, and grimly romantic. unreal levels of passion and desire going on here. some of the best camera work i've ever seen, park knows how to direct a damn movie. i love it, and i think it just got slightly overshadowed due to when it came out in relation to the pandemic, but it has it's fans. in another world this film would be absolutely massive

My go to for just a simple one question is if you were a bird what bird would you be. It’s really specific so it gives a clear topic to talk about but it’s still fun. Its also a good way to get to know someone by having them talk about themselves without putting them super on the spot. I think any question like this is more interesting than a “what do you do?”

Kind of a lie cause I did rewatch it once (when I was sick for some reason) and I cried so hard I couldn’t breathe. Beautiful movie, don’t regret seeing it and i probably will watch it again someday, when I have someone else to subject to the torture, but I think that day is far into my future. It’s one of studio Ghibli’s best movies but its hard bringing yourself to watch something you know is so painful to see. When I watch it the moment I start crying I don’t stop till after it’s over.

Ever since I was like 8 I have been obsessed with the movie Xanadu. It’s campy, it’s fun, it has Oliva Newton John, Gene Kelly and ELO. The sound track is no joke one of my favorite albums ever and I have probably listened to it hundreds of times at this point in my life. It’s not a particularly great movie but I think it’s a good testament that sometimes things just speak to you not because of their objective goodness but because of your ability to see the beauty in it.
