my sleep schedule fluctuates quite drastically and i do often appreciate a 4am bedtime but i’ve been so into eating a yummy dinner and then crawling beneath the sheets and asleep before 10 goodnightttt

i visited a friend and she suggested we get a slice of cake from her favorite bakery, and it felt incredibly cool in an aspirational ina or martha way. i think this should be somewhat mom and pop, and wow wouldn’t it be great if it were your little secret you’re sharing. i guess i’m saying no milk bar. would actually be more impressed with a really good grocery store cake, such as the attached safeway red velvet that is only good in slice form and not the whole cake because it’s made differently despite what multiple bakers have said. i haven’t actually landed on my favorite local cake, but it’s absolutely a goal and would be such a good look. all that said… if you have a favorite cake please share

sit in a circle, everyone has a piece of paper (and maybe everyone has a pen, or one pen that gets passed, and a surface to write on). the first person starts by writing a prompt - it can be simple, eg the name of a famous person, or a simple action, eg pumping gas, or it can be complicated, eg a famous person pumping gas and downing 5 fireball shots and vaping. they hand their piece of paper with the prompt to the person on their left, who then has to draw the prompt. they hand their drawing to the person on their left, who has to write down what they see. this repeats until it gets back to the person who wrote the original prompt, who reveals what they wrote and shows the group how it’s changed around the circle. it’s best with 6+ people, and great for all ages (as long as they can read and draw). one time i was playing with a group of my cousins and one cousin wrote “why am i here?” and we all had to go around and write then draw “why is (x) here?” and we all knew what it was because it was clear she didn’t really know or like us. we kept making her play games with us until she liked us more and 15 years later we’re going to her wedding this week so let’s just say this game changes lives and brings families closer?

might be old news but can’t overstate how much this makes me feel calmer and more organized. instead of having stuff/decor/pill bottles/trash all over the table, throw a tray on there and push all that stuff on the tray it will feel so much less cluttered and fancy. can be cheap! can be an old serving platter! bonus points if it contrasts with the surface nicely.
