she’s pretty much the only youtuber i regularly consume nowadays, & ‘regularly’ is probably an overstatement because i’m still trying to kill my addiction to short-form content. anyway, she mostly makes fashion/style content. what separates her from other ‘fashion influencers’ is that her videos aren’t about over-consuming the new trend of the week, they’re about how to tastefully style what you already own, build a quality & reliable wardrobe, & have fun with practical fashion. i feel like she’s genuinely helped me spice up my wardrobe without doing a ton of shopping, but rather just by styling items in new ways :)

One of my fav fashion YouTubers Super realistic as far as fashion influencers are, shows how to rewear your wardrobe/not get sick of what you already have. She also has a discord which has been super fun to share OOTD’s and make outfits for other people!

Kel Lauren - They make videos on graphic design, but I find them really entertaining, even as someone who has no interest in being a graphic designer. Every time I watch their videos, I just feel instantly relaxed. I don't think they've been posting as much lately, but they have a great & unique backlog of vids to go through! Something very different from what other YT'ers are doing. Ashley Norton - If you like Mic's Mike, Ashley's content is in in a similar fun, pop-culture commentary vein. Hers is more straightforward talking with less fun gimmicks (no wall-webs like Mike does), but she's still very funny and compassionate in her approach to topics. She covers nostalgic topics like old bandom drama and 2000s/early 2010s TV stars/shows. I like that she seems to focus on what she's interested in, instead of recycling the same discourse/hot topics that the algorithm pushes. Mila Tequila - She does a lot of longform retrospectives on 2000s phenomenons, so they're really good for putting on and listening to while you're painting, cleaning, etc. I also appreciate that she doesn't have the specific type of boring, monotone, video-essay voice that can make a lot of people zone out! Hers feels more conversational. Casey Aonso & UnCarley - Both do some fun pop culture tier list ranking vids that I think Mike's Mic enjoyers would like! UnCarley does some videos similar to his style with wall webs & Casey's whole channel is great. ModernGurlz & Mina Le - Have some great fashion content! Modern Gurlz has some really interesting trend analysis videos & Mina Le does great interesting commentary on fashion history. As for individual videos, this one had some refreshing relatability & charm that I feel like I haven't seen in a hot second on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZFhA26rPNy4?si=d9bmyekxAEv0zC5s

i was raised by two radically left parents who worked in the labor movement, & have adopted a lot of their sociopolitical views in adulthood. i never remember them teaching me anything about politics as a kid, though. of course they discussed their jobs at dinner & occasionally expressed their feelings about elections in front of me, but they never sat me down & told me how the world was, why they feel the way they feel, or why i should feel the same as them. i do remember them teaching me empathy. i remember them teaching me to think about how i might make someone feel before i said anything. i remember them teaching me to invite the kids who normally ate alone to come sit with me & my friends at lunch. i remember them teaching me that hurting somebody else is never going to help me. from this basic education in human compassion, i came to believe that nobody should ever have to go hungry. i came to believe that nobody should ever have to sleep without a roof over their head. & when i learned that the ruling class was forcing masses of people to do those things, boom, there was radicalization.
