I’ve been doing intense cardio consisting of stairmaster (workout stats pictured) and swimming laps (not pictured) for about two months and I am seeing results at a pace that I thought were previously unrealistic. I probably can’t give all credit to cardio alone however because I also have gotten much stricter about counting calories and eating quality foods.

Had a breakup at the end of 2021 that dealing with, was pretty stressed out about it and started going to a powerlifting gym (shoutout Rx S&C) that had a strength and conditioning class with some weightlifting, kettlebells, etc. Got me tired as a dog, cleared my head and after a bit, the results helped my self esteem. I was also playing a lot of ultimate frisbee, and the amount of aerobic exercise made it easier to take up jogging. I moved to NY last summer and after I got here, it really helped me during the transition to join a crossfit gym and jog on my off days. Had some back problems, the weather got crappy and I got out off the habit of exercise and my mental health really suffered. Have recently started running again and I can see a marked difference in my mood and stress level.

Honestly, I’ve noticed such a difference from just a sneaky plank or two a day

I made a bunch of wild changes in my life recently. Went sober for a couple months, quit smoking and started exercising like crazy…highly recommend all three of these but specifically I found love for basic bitch fitness. For the first time I fully understand the fanaticism: the light filled mirrored room, Taylor swift remixes thumping in your sports bra bound chest, a tiny nasal bubblegum voice thick with vocal fry assuring you that you are so strong and powerful, ok ladies! Instills this nearly manic feeling of total control and capability and I walk out feeling psychotically euphoric.

Finding a gym with a quality pool was a necessity for me. When I swim I am able to shut the world out in a way that doesn’t seem possible during strength training or regular cardio. Hell, I only feel like I can get through my daily stairmaster routine by distracting myself with videos while simultaneously playing a card game on my phone. (Yes, I know I’m cooked.) Anyways, with swimming I don’t need anything. I just need to focus on my breath and the rhythmic motions of my body - the physical exertion doesn’t distract me. My mind and body are truly in sync when I swim.
