It’s the type of poetry that I would typically dislike. But I read it once, then twice, then three times and it became one of my favorites. It made me angry that I liked it and it helped me grow as a poet and as someone who enjoys poetry.

Sorry I keep thinking of more! Natalie Diaz’ Postcolonial Love Poem collection is gorgeous and contains one of the sexiest poems ever (first half pictured), called These Hands, If Not Gods

one of my all-time favorite poems. Diaz's whole oeuvre is moving and beautiful, but the volta in this particular one--which grew out of a long-term correspondence between Diaz and Ada Limon--makes me cry every time i read it aloud.

There’s a condemned house next my girlfriendā€˜s house that is made of maple and looks to be hand carved. There are 8 squares with similar beautiful designs and an ornate brass handle. The rest of the house is cracked and leaking and the big orange sign next to the door is peeling off of the wall, but I stop to look at that door almost every morning. I’m just now realizing I’ve never thought to take a picture of it.
