oh my goddd my friends have all gotten tired of me talking about this book because i literally bring it up whenever someone asks for book recs but it’s sooo amazingly written it’s a shame it isn’t more well known!! the plot is fairly simple, a woman named cassandra comes home from college to attend her twin sister’s wedding, but where it really shines is the unique character studies and the fun/relatable prose and inner monologue! it was written by dorothy baker in the 60s, and is pretty progressive for the time (the main character is lesbian which was definitely not accepted much back then!!) anyways i would definitely read it if you’re a fan of very down to earth and relatable stories! (although trigger warning for suicidal ideations, its not graphic but still!)

It’s been three days since I’ve finished that book and it’s on my mind all the time. when I brush my teeth I think about Nettie and her time in africa , I make myself a drink and I think about Sofia and her brave struggles , it really stuck with me . It’s bleak but it’s because a woman’s life can be bleak , it’s also happy and theological and compassionate. Anyways check the trigger warnings but if you want to dive into a beautiful story and a sapphic one at that check it out ! 😜♥️

One of the few good books to come out of booktok imo. Themes of queerness, betrayal, and discovering one’s identity, but without being too therapy speech-y if that makes sense. Just feels like a real person experiencing things, not an author trying to teach you lessons. Also, the DRAMA of it all just makes it endlessly readable to me.
