I was telling my roommates about how i like playing the radio at my work bc i feel like it puts people at ease and gives us things to talk about. It became a long conversation about the stations and the DJs we grew up with as kids and we could all remember exact soundbites. I was reminiscing about listening to local radio stations on trips with family/friends and how it grounded us in an exact place and time. Just a magical invention that feels underrated and sweetly archaic in streaming times 💘

Last summer while traveling I got a pocket radio so that instead of listening to my same Spotify playlists I could tap in to the pulse of wherever I was visiting. It was such an amazing experience of feeling connected to place and feeling very aware of the people around me. like I am part of this! We are all part of this!! I could rant forever about why I’m passionate about local radio…but we all know music is an incredible mechanism to connect/communicate with people- and where hits stations loose identity, algorithm driven streaming becomes such an island. Local radio fills an important niche of here. now. us. we. are experiencing this together

- less decision making - pushes you to hear something different - it’s live so you get to hear people talk it’s cute you feel like you’re with them - curated vibe for the time of day - but also love trying radio stations from around the world (try the app radio garden, an 85 year old at my job showed it to me)

Who let radio stations fall off? Certainly not me Reminds me of sitting in my carseat singing along to my mom's favorite songs on the way to school and listening to those friendly familiar voices greet me every morning. Good times
