Literally in my backyard (and I think I possibly have a grass allergy that was undiscovered until now because where I grew up there just wasnā€™t a lot of grass) but also metaphorically. I moved to a cozy home in a beautiful walkable neighborhood and Iā€™ve been enjoying strolling around and meeting so many neighborhood woodland crittersā€”I just learned where Mr. Groundhog lives (at the base of a big tree in the woods behind my house)! On Saturday I found a dead squirrel in my backyard that seemed to have been killed by a bird of prey :( he was also my friend he was uniquely chunky and I loved watching him scurry around. My favorite mother deer has been hopping the fence and jumping into my yard to take naps and munch at the grass, vines, and hostas and Iā€™m honored to have her as an esteemed guest. Iā€™m meticulously and slowly planning what color and fabric of curtains I want to buy for every room which is such a process. Iā€™ve never had so many windows before and curtains are one of my absolute favorite interior design elements so Iā€™m overwhelmed but overjoyed. itā€™s also VERY nice to finally have my own dedicated office space to work in again. Having a basement is WEIRD but not as creepy as I expected. Iā€™ve been regularly frequenting my neighborhood artisan bakery and tiny old indie movie theater and buying peaches by the crateful at the farmerā€™s market. Iā€™m trying to cut back on sugar and have once again grown bored with alcohol so Iā€™m rawdogging life despite recent legalization in my state because SWIM is now prone to extreme greenout panic attacks šŸ’” Iā€™m doing a lot of somatic yoga which I greatly enjoyā€¦ and I take SO many hot baths. Iā€™ve also been doing some controversial new tactics with my hair which Iā€™ll post about soon and Iā€™m due for another salon appointmentā€¦ or overdue you could say but I always like to wait to see how the tones fade and blend with my roots almost more than I like the fresh colorā€¦ the chiaroscuro of it all! my fiery red hair has faded to a caramel tortoiseshell and Iā€™m kind of obsessed so I want to play off of that next time and get a Jane Birkin inspired cut. Iā€™m ready for bangs again!!! I switched Benny and Bunny from their previous frozen raw foods to Steveā€™s Real Foodā€”I love the ingredients they use and their complete transparency about the farms they source them from! Benny and Bunnyā€™s coats look so much healthier + I think they like eating it more šŸ¤” my relationship with Benny has dramatically improved and I donā€™t know if itā€™s that he just loves living in a more spacious house with a backyard or if itā€™s because heā€™s grown up, but likely a combination of both. Iā€™ve recorded two episodes of my new podcast Gilded with nunjournal my dear friend of 15+ years and once our third episode is complete weā€™re going to release them all at once then transition to a biweekly schedule! And last week I was unanimously elected to serve as the vice chair of an internal consultancy group Iā€™m in at work which is the pet project of executive leadership for strategic future growth of the company so thatā€™s kind of a slayā€¦ Iā€™m leading my first subcommittee meeting on Wednesday Iā€™m nervous but tickled pink. thatā€™s about it thanks for reading this characteristically overly long post! :~)

this is only relevant if u live in new york im sorry if u dont ---------------- Woodbine Writers workshop is here!!! Come to gain perspectives and feedback on your already-drafted work as well as to develop new writing. The first in a planned series, each session will take on a theme, and will consist of writing activities, conversations on practice, and sprinkles of different things throughout. This week we will be exploring writing in relation to ritual. As the poet Nikky Finney has said, ā€œrepetition is holy.ā€ This week we will have one background reading/touchpoint, Chris La Tray's ā€œA Few More Sentencesā€: https://chrislatray.substack.com/p/a-few-more-sentences-1 a note: Writers should feel comfortable and safe to show up with their authentic work. Generative critique and response only happens when we orient ourselves with openness, respect, and care toward each other. This workshop will require that participants meet one anotherā€™s vulnerable acts of sharing work with attention and grace. Weā€™ll work together to make a space where we are all safe enough to take the creative risks that lead us to growth, insight, and clarity. Anyone in love withā€“curious aboutā€“plagued byā€“in want ofā€“oriented towardā€“ the written word & letter is welcome.

No screen Sundays. If I want to listen to music its CDs or radio. If I want to watch a movie, no I donā€™t. If I want to see a friend, I will make plans with them on Friday or Saturday to meet up. As a result, I read more, write more, and sit with questions like ā€œdid Citizen Kaneā€˜s 50 year winning streak in the Sight and Sound critics choice survey end in 2012 or 2022? When did Stephen Merritt come out? Whats the etymology of Whitsun?ā€œ This is something that I have practiced off and on for many years but Iā€™ve been doing it every week since December and I love the way that it just allows me one day of true freedom and rest.
