Lately I’ve been playing more Sudoku on my train commutes (also about 40 minutes). If you want to look at a screen less, you could get a book of Sudoku puzzles or crosswords or word searches. I feel like it helps me keep my brain sharp

I’ll look for a book of them!!! I didn’t think of puzzles! I love sudoku! Definitely keeps the brain nice and sharp! Thank you! :3

I love my little NYTimes games ritual (start with easy Sudoku, then medium Sudoku, Connections, Crossword, hard Sudoku, Tiles, and finally Spelling Bee if I feel really locked in). Still, the brain health benefits and fun of these puzzles feel diminished when I realize this is HOURS of unnecessary screen time. I switched my daily puzzle ritual from online to a paperback, and I have never been happier. I feel so zen doing my sudoku outside like a fucking monk.

Mental exercise 🏋️‍♂️, a simple but all-consuming addiction. I’ve played at least 1 game of sudoku every morning for months. I look forward to it, and find myself opening a game in progress rather than doomscrolling IG during those little moments of “in-between time”. I play on a phone app, but I’m seriously considering a back-pocket book of sudoku.

I first shaved my head in 2017 because I wanted to do something bold with my body, something I had considered for 2 whole weeks before just doing it. Now, I haven’t cut my hair since November 2024 and my hair is in the pixie stage. When people, usually women, ask me about cutting my hair, I always tell them to do it at least once because it’s so liberating to reclaim your body in a very obvious but temporary way. It’s also nice to not worry about extensive care and maintenance. I’m not sure if I’m going to like having long hair again, but I’m going to give it another try.

I had last Friday off work, and I decided to really treat myself. First, I spent my early afternoon in Greenpoint where I got a mani-pedi (something I haven’t done in years), and a yummy brunch across the street; walked to our favorite stationery store (Yoseka!) and got some little things; took the train to 8th Ave in Manhattan and walked south to the West Village; sat at the Stonewall Memorial for a bit listening to music; went to use the restroom at Stonewall where I stayed for a beer (and made a friend from out of town!); walked to the IFC Center to watch “Armand” (great Norwegian film); finishing off my day with an easy dinner at home. Best day ever in a long time❤️
