Any golden age Hollywood picture will work but this one has a 17-minute ballet spectacular in the middle of it so it’s extra special.

Without a doubt, one if not the best American movie musicals of all time. Directed by Bob Fosse, I once heard someone call it “The American Version of 8 1/2” which makes so much sense. Roy Schneider plays an avatar-esque version of Bob Fosse - the film being a mirror into Fosse’s life as a choreographer. Of course, the choreography in this film is on point and so is the music (its not overly showtime-y which I love) The final number in this movie is one of my favorite movie endings of all time. Highly highly recommend it.

oh my god. I went into this thinking yeah yeah fun pretty technicolour Powell & Pressburger postwar ballet film. and it is all of those things. but it is also PERFECT. dramatic and beautiful with queer and feminist overtones/undertones that are so exciting to identify in a 75 year old film and a plot that speaks to anyone caught between art and the conventions of love!! And it has a 17 minute hyperreal ballet sequence through the psyche! genuinely want to scream about it to everyone i’ve ever met

The songs, the dream ballet, Cyd Charisse's green dress, Donald O'Connor's performance of Make 'Em Laugh, Gene Kelly doing one of the most iconic scenes in cinematic history with a fever, Debbie Reynolds emerging out of a big cake, this film has it all. IMDb has a lot of fascinating facts about this film and it sounded like a terrible project to work on but wow what a film

Actually I have another hater take. Sorry but I do judge you if you use this (or any other AI chat bot because apparently there are others?) and treat it as a source of truth.....very strange behavior. I thought we all thought it was dumb but I now hear people reference it's use in common conversation/at work as if it's not weird? Why are you all feeding the beast? Can we please use our brains? Use it or lose it, baby!

if we all commit to the old fashioned way (dating irl) then I think the whole world will be hot and sexier—a net-positive for society 😌
