Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try

Capture all these abnormal acts of human behaviour and announce them on your street corner like a modern day town crier! Every Sunday 11 sharp!!

propanecowboy fair, I like the sentiment, but I think that leaves a void of celebrating weirdo energy. If we turn a blind eye to the quirks of humanity, i think that discourages it in a different, isolating way. All in the tone of the writing I think

hhtthhtthhttht for sure for sure - my final contrarian ass question is - is documentation / capture inherent to the joy and celebration of a thing / person / place? no need to answer.

propanecowboy not at all, I think just talking to the homie or partner about it is enough. I think its just the art history nerd in me that likes the poetics of having it preserved

headempty true! Be the change you want to see and such. Maybe the key to protecting weirdo energy in the world is shaming the people who are publicly shaming weirdo energy. Make the judgmental filming frowned upon instead of being a weirdo… idk

i have a coworker who’s an illustrator/character designer and does this when peoplewatching during downtime at work! it’s makes things fun and it’s waaaay more amusing than watching a video taken without their knowledge

Maybe I’ll take up sound design more seriously this year, or assemblage and installation art, or stream of consciousness unedited vlogs on camera if not journaling every day, all of these are novel ideas surely no one else has pondered up, maybe I should drink less coffee as well

I want to strike a balance between consuming and creating. I think that's why we might feel so aimless sometimes. I told myself I'd create one thing a day, even if it's shitty. A doodle, product concept, song lyric, a beat, an animation, etc. Literally anything. I just need to stop consuming nonstop and actually do something with the info I process. will report back

last Saturday, I attended an event that I didn't plan on making content at. I had a great time at the pop-up but I took very little pictures and videos. I only had one plan- to enjoy myself. I have not had any intention to create any content while on my vacation. the constant pressure to push out is not what I want to have overbearing me as I grow older. On this particular day though, I promised myself that if I made something, it would be in hopes that I would make it for funsies. And the 13-second video I put out got me the most views I have ever received. This post does not mean that you should not take your vacation time seriously, but that if you are feeling reluctant to make a silly little post because you also fear external judgment like I do, then just do it. The outcome could be greater than you had imagined. what a ramble.

Thought of this watching a PBS cooking show centered around local farmer and fisherman. Awkward pauses. Darting eyes. Canned jokes. I like this, it is human. I wonder if our arms race of conversation/persona monetizing is not good for us. Sub-rec: how to with John Wilson

Great phrase. A tad southern dilettante-y perhaps, but that’s a plus for me. “What, pray tell, are you going to do with all those onions?” See, it adds a little wan aloofness to your disbelief
