The commission I’ve been grinding this month has mostly been done in coffee shops (I will share when I can pi.fyi, I’m very excited about it) but then I remembered I have shitty coffee at home that works fine and that I have a great art museum close by. When it’s nice out I’ve got giant iron sculptures surrounding me. If it’s not I’m making art next to the brain children of Albers and Richters and Dutch masters I can’t be bothered to memorize the names of. As inspiring as bad first dates and banal gossip is to me (not sarcasm, it fuels me) the great art and serene atmosphere is even more inspiring. Highly recommend

If you just go for 40ish minutes, you get the perfect dose of “inspo-intel” without overdoing it. So many times I’ve felt inspired but then killed it by going for too long because in the end you really can only absorb so much. If you make the visit shorter, you have time to actually go to studio directly after and “work it out” with your enlightened eyeballs. Plus when you treat it like a more frequent activity you start to have a more intimate relationship with the paintings on view. It’s the closest thing to actually owning a masterpiece.

I get caught up in my artistic interests and often forget other media. Art museums aren't my first choice most days. But the experience is incredibly valuable. It shakes up my box, whether what I see resonates or not. Last time I went, there was a Beatrix Potter exhibit. I learned so much about her as a person, her childhood, and her appreciation of the sciences and passion for conservation. She and her brother would taxidermy their pets when they died (metal). Her scientific illustrations are astoundingly detailed for being rendered entirely in watercolor. I didn't know watercolors could look like this.

going to the museums in my city, going to events, visiting art schools as a spectator to view their expositions it gives me this.. je ne sais quoi feeling. like, euphoria and inspiration and hope in a weird combined way. thinking about art, talking about art - and by that i mean anything from jewelry to graphic design, paintings, poetry, (short) film and sculptures. just fills me with purpose unlike anything else. im watching my sims be succesful artists and im like.. damn i wanna be that.

Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try

Thought of this watching a PBS cooking show centered around local farmer and fisherman. Awkward pauses. Darting eyes. Canned jokes. I like this, it is human. I wonder if our arms race of conversation/persona monetizing is not good for us. Sub-rec: how to with John Wilson
