Finding a recycled appreciation for physical media again as someone who grew up in the early 00’s. I miss blockbuster! redbox (when it was good)! anybody remember GameFly? I still check out movies from the library, but especially with companies owning and having the ability to remove media from their platform at their greedy, corporate will - I’ve started buying my favorite movies, shows, and CDs again :)

after playstation removed a bunch of videos that people had already purchased through their store i learnt that when you buy digital products, you're not really buying them, you're buying a licence to use them until they decide they want to stop licensing it out to you. so i've kind of got back into collecting physical media i saw in my local charity shop that CDs were 10p and i had a look and holy shiiiiiit i found some gold, Outkast, Lauryn Hill, Arrested Development, Bon Iver, Haim, loads of stuff - and i don't live in a particularly 'cool' place so was surprised to find them and i've already rec'ed this before but DVDs too, a place by me does 10 for 50p and even found fairly recent titles like the favourite, little women, etc. idk, i guess i might be romanticising having physical media but i love it

Blu-ray, vinyl records, maybe cassettes are your thing! Physical media is underrated. Some reasons physical media is great. • It’s fun to curate a collection of favorites • They come in fun packagin and sometimes include fun bonuses (cards, stickers, bonus features/tracks) • Streaming services suck. They’re like landlords for your favorite movies and TV shows.

I started seriously collecting (if you can call it serious) physical media about a year ago, about the same time I got into film photography. I love going through the VHS, DVDs, and cassettes at thrift stores. I don’t have tons of vinyl bc they’re expensive but I like those too, and I have tons of books of course. :)

NOT a big non fiction reader but I will always pick up something that catches my eye (don’t judge a book by its cover, but also like sometimes do). Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner (Japanese Breakfast) made me ugly cry at work. honorable mentions: Mean Baby - Selma Blair I’m Glad My Mom Died - Jeanette McCurdy Tuesdays With Morrie - Mitch Albom In the Dream House - Carmen Maria Machado Down the Drain - Julia Fox Cultish - Amanda Montell Maybe You Should Talk to Someone - Lori Gottlieb Flesh & Blood - N West Moss

I’ve lost distant family members, patients, friends, etc., but I’ve never lost someone so close to me. I cried over everything and nothing and wished to feel anything but emptiness and loss. I laughed over memories and smiled at the sunset over a lake. I flew to GA just to feel the emptiness in person. Yet…I can’t help but feel happiness for knowing her voice, her love, her joy, her kindness, her unrelenting stubbornness. For seeing where she made her mark and who/where she made it in. Grief is weird and I’ll never not feel that void, but I hope I can grow to live and be comfortable with it.
