I had last Friday off work, and I decided to really treat myself. First, I spent my early afternoon in Greenpoint where I got a mani-pedi (something I havenā€™t done in years), and a yummy brunch across the street; walked to our favorite stationery store (Yoseka!) and got some little things; took the train to 8th Ave in Manhattan and walked south to the West Village; sat at the Stonewall Memorial for a bit listening to music; went to use the restroom at Stonewall where I stayed for a beer (and made a friend from out of town!); walked to the IFC Center to watch ā€œArmandā€ (great Norwegian film); finishing off my day with an easy dinner at home. Best day ever in a long timeā¤ļø

I make a solo run to the city every month or so. Usually for a concert, last time was to see Stereophonic (absolutely destroyed me). I find it almost meditative, cathartic to just walk the city without much of a plan aside from the main goal. I think I ate some sort of wrap from a corner store last time. It was a matinee show so I got out and was able to walk until everything ached and I felt better. It always breathes some life back into me after suffering the claustrophobia of home.

I first shaved my head in 2017 because I wanted to do something bold with my body, something I had considered for 2 whole weeks before just doing it. Now, I havenā€™t cut my hair since November 2024 and my hair is in the pixie stage. When people, usually women, ask me about cutting my hair, I always tell them to do it at least once because itā€™s so liberating to reclaim your body in a very obvious but temporary way. Itā€™s also nice to not worry about extensive care and maintenance. Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™m going to like having long hair again, but Iā€™m going to give it another try.
