Mr. Leonard Cohen this doc from canada explores his days as a horny poet (pre-dates horny songsmith career) but also leads me to ask, was leonard cohen the proto-fuckboy?

an old roommate found this seemingly relatively obscure grimy gay Canadian poetry book on the sidewalk in Montreal maybe 15 years ago. i wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s particularly good but it has a certain charm to it and I’m glad I have it. I like to think that he lives with a partner and some cats in Victoria, BC now or something but like probably not.. “nyc laundry day put a canadian dime in th slot get three bags of soap and fuck th machine for good” “vancouver september yur right now i know what its all about i feel yu up my ass like a hard shit at first really not much room in there and all so hard and yur mouth all over my tongue fights back down yur throat up yur ass [several more pages]”

A few years back I was doing this little piece on long term commitment & love for The Drunken Canal and I emailed Jonathan Richman for a quote. He told his publicist to tell me (he doesn't use computers) to just pick one of his songs, they're all about love. I then asked Phil Elverum of The Microphones, who responded- Not sure if this would be helpful at all, but the only thing that pops to mind is a Jonathan Richman song: https://youtu.be/LVB49knyJvI It captures some of the funny subtleties of commitment/fluidity, the contradictions of trying to hold an inherently impermanent thing. It's not exactly a quote from me, but it's the best I have. Kismet if you ask me

These have been my big three for awhile — already said good-bye to the first two, have been bracing for Dylan for awhile now. How do we keep him alive? Maybe: introduce his music to others, play it loud and sign along, live out his greatest ideals of justice and goodness, learn the historical context for his music, make our own art, live fearlessly, love others with everything we can, feed the hungry, care for the poor, fight for the oppressed, visit the lonely, hold hands with the dying, shed tears with those who are grieving, love our enemies or something like that

apparel-ish? I started an apparel brand called Blood is the new Black when I was 23 (in 2004, i’m 42 now) the brand acted as an arts collective, i’d select several artists every season to add to the brand and would curate their submitted works into collections. distro ranged from beams (jp) colette (fr) selfridges (uk) all the way to pac sun, urban outfitters, zumiez in the states. during the 9 years I had the brand I also published zines, produced artist directed films, curated gallery shows etc. it was part of the indie sleaze era and you’d see folks like tegan and sara, michael pitt, britney spears, allison mosshart wearing the brand. somehow I pivoted to country music along the way and started a brand called midnight rider in 2013. i made licensed repop and vintage feeling tees for musicians and folks like willie nelson, townes van zandt, nudies rodeo tailors, john wayne, the judds, waylon jennings, zz top and so many others. I sold that brand last year! now I do licensing and merchandise for waylon jennings (so if you see waylon merch or collabs i’m the one behind it). I also spend my free time taking photos and i’m currently working on a book about grand national owners. id love to mentor folks who have or are starting their own businesses because i’ve learned a lot in the process both good and bad.

Cocteau Twins in 1993 or 1994 (with Luna opening) - I was in the 8th grade and my sister who was 14 years older than me took me. We saw Mazzy Star/JaMC and Depeche Mode the next year.
