used the five metal shop one last year but it seemed a little too precious and i never ended up ripping any of the pages. got this one for 4$ in chinatown and it's a fun morning ritual. i use the torn pages for random notes each day, and thinking i'll give my friends the ones of their bday. maybe i'll finally learn the lunar calendar this year!

I guess this is less a rec, more just what works for me. When I'm in really busy eras I have a night where I actually handmake a few months worth of calendars (like literally with a marker, and a ruler, and heavy paper). I hang them up on the wall, and I just start filling them up. When the busy-ness fades I take the months down and keep them. Also cool because you have an analog record of what you did for a while.

time is going to pass no matter how much we wish it didn’t, might as well get a cool calendar to look at while it does. i personally have the euroway ring-a-date perpetual calendar (second photo in the image below) designed in italy by giorgio della beffa in 1970, it’s one of my most prized possessions. the other calendars below are 1. the eternal calendar by chop suey club 3. a calendar designed by artist sanqian 4. grape calendar on inside object

i met some of my now dearest friends during 2020 in a leftist asian american podcast discord server while we listened to our own diy radio and had book club and thought too hard about things. it is one of the best things that’s happened in my life. also just a very great origin story to recount irl.
