It is one of those reads that no synopsis of mine can encompass the multitudes hidden within those pages. It is a great comfort if youā€™re feeling lonely or particularly ā€˜nutsā€™ because no one depicts the gnarly & honest nature of internal ā€œmadnessā€œ like Woolf. She writes from raw experienceā€”and sheā€™s not trying to teach you anything either. Another thing she does like no one else is demand the readers attention on the overlooked. She follows this modernist/mystic tradition that the mundane & sublime are more alike than we think, if we are truly conscious. .

By Virginia Woolf. My first Woolf! Two friends and I all read it in succession, and I found it very captivating and moving. A novel about memory and growing up and and noticing and experiencing life in all its richness in the mundanity of a single day...how did she do it?? I think I will make a pilgrimage to Regentā€™s park now

The first Woolf I read and also one of the first books that really kickstarted my love of reading! I loved it so much I chose to write my A level final piece on it. Stream of consciousness style but without feeling inaccessible (dont talk to me about James Joyce). I tried The Waves afterwards but found that less gripping. Definitely read Mrs Dalloway!

If Iā€™m being completely honest, to the lighthouse is not my favorite Woolf novel, but it is a good introduction to her style. Mrs dalloway is in fact an incredible novel, it threw me into an extreme life crisis and made me break up with my boyfriend of 3 years. The waves is one of her best works ever, but itā€™s EXTREMELY strange and challenging. Orlando is also honestly one of the best books Iā€™ve ever read, but is sort of an outlier in terms of her usual writing style and content. Its itā€™s own thing.

what a time to be depressed in middle school. my uniform was flower crowns, combat boots, a skirt, tights and a graphic t-shirt. I thought my tumblr was so fucking sickā€”I copied some code on the backend so Born to die by Lana del Rey played and the mouse was a skull. So funny that at the time I was terminally unique, now this shared experience is something you can practically smell on early 20 year old gays.
