Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. (this has been my favorite movie since I first watched it at 14 and I really doubt it will ever change. I just popped in the dvd to watch the director/writer commentary and other special features yesterday.) Zola. (I’ve seen Janicza Bravo do Q&As about Zola live twice which is probably two more times that the average person.) Springbreakers. Fallen Angels. Ingrid Goes West. The Royal Tenenbaums. 68 Kill. Poor Things. (I did not see enough movies last year, but I saw this one which is great because it was made for me specifically) Are you sensing a theme in these films….

I’m limiting myself to 10 to be sensible and these are subject to frequent and unpredictable change. Tried to do a range of genres and a few well beloved directors. I hope you find as much joy in cinema as I have! Howls Moving Castle - when you say you’ve seen nothing, does this mean no ghibli? There’s a whole load of Studio Ghibli films that are amazing, this is my comfort Film. Jennifer’s Body - essential bisexual cult cinema. never met a man who likes it, never met a woman who doesn’t It Follows - possibly my favourite ever horror movie. Four Lions - Probably my favourite comedy ever, very British, very brilliant Arrival - one of only two times a film has given me the feeling of the sublime in the same way seeing the alps did.(the other one is The Green Knight, consider this a sneaky Rec for that too) Beautiful sci-fi. The Virgin Suicides - Arguably Sofia Coppola’s best film. The Big Lebowski - my favourite Coen Brother’s film (I have Maud tattooed on me). fun and hugely well loved. Only Lovers Left Alive - Jim Jarmusch is a must watch director, this and Paterson are my faves. Tilda Swinton and TI’m Hiddleston play sexy vampires. Ocean’s 11 - very vocal about my love for heist films, and this is the cream of the crop

my impulsive top 4 of all time atm Matilda formed my aesthetic / ethic sensibility at a very young age ... both light-hearted and dark... resourceful kids and either demonic or angelic adults... I need to catch more Danny Devito as director stuff, I think he's one of the most significant cultural figures of our times Earwig is a fairly recent fave. Somewhat similar philosophically to Matilda^^ but European and much much darker. Made by Lucile Hadzhihalilovic (work and life partner w Gaspar Noe). She seems to be making movies about adults biopoliticsmaxxing children. Giving Kafka, I think, but not even a little funny. Dreamy, vibesy stuff. To be avoided if you're bothered by not getting all the answers. The Devils is a sexy lil romp about nuns letting libidinal tension turn into would-be Satanic psychoses. Feat a very very handsome Oliver Reed. Spoiler alert they massacre him at the end. I love Ken Russell and his bacchanalia. The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite Wes Anderson, at least from his early career. If u get it u get it. This one has some strong sentimental/emotional power over me, but then it's also pretty funny. The Royal Tenenbaums is The One. Also shoutout to the four Netflix shorts that came out last year, which I think are his best work in years and years and years (though I thought the same thing about Asteroid City).

women who run with wolves, women who run with rats. the true ultimate bonding activity for you and the girls. because you’ll never forget how they sheltered you when you were low. one of the most liberating rituals I perform in New York is popping a squat in between parked cars or a dark corner and letting it all go…. wild wild women we are deemed to be. they may look down upon us because perhaps it isn’t “polite”. But when you’re bursting at the seams, why must we settle for discomfort? What’s a girl to do? We are not graced with simplicity to turn to the wall– subtly concealed without judgement. Our anatomy binds us to the confines of bearing it all in a squat. With added complexity given the outfit of choice. And always the obstacle of not splattering our cute shoes. but id only be telling you a falsehood if I said peeing outdoors isn’t so enjoyable whether it be in the middle of a forest or the city street. Even when all odds may be stacked against you. Only God can judge me. But God is a woman anyway.

It’s okay. it’s not for validation, it’s for performance art. Linda Montano said living life itself is her lifelong performance because she declared that it was. Trisha Paytas has carried on that performance practice. So I’m hot on instagram when the spirit compels me to be. But in like a durationally artistic way and for my future lifelong archive, to show my granddaughters that I was also young and fertile once and my boobs were decently sized and semi perky. They should know. That I was that girl once before I was grey and a bit wrinkled and more bitter than I am currently; for traditional reasons.

I’m post-grad, unemployed, no direction, sick with a stomach flu or something, went on 3 back to back trips so like I spent a lot of money, clearly have lots of time to write and recommend and ponder and not be ridden with confusion and anxiety these days. So yes, of course here I am. Back at last to Perfectly Imperfect. You’ve caught me red-handed. Crawling back as I’m glued to my couch currently on a nocturnal sleep schedule due to perhaps a combination of my illness and my body remaining in a time zone opposite to the one I must adjust back to. Hope someone out there missed me. The bitch is back.
