Last night at a bar while talking up a band I love I caught myself putting a separate but related band down. On the way home it bothered me that I did that, and itās still bothering me this morning. I wish I had just focused on the thing I liked and the things I like about it rather than putting down the thing I donāt. It didnāt make my point any clearer and it didnāt make me feel good.
Weāve made such a currency out of putting things down, I wonder what would happen if we all spent a week only talking up things we like and left the things we donāt alone. We might sleep just a little better.
P.S. the thing I like most about this space is that itās built to support exactly this type of thinking and sharing.

I donāt believe in ranking things- restaurants, albums, books, movies, athletes anything, top x lists whatever. I think itās a waste of time honestly. Even with a completely objective criterion whatās the point. Would rather listen to and read people just talk about their favorite things and why they are special and meaningful to them- everyone has their own, interesting reasons. And this is a great place to do that!

when people ask me about my job iām often tempted to launch into all of my frustrations, which sometimes i do
but sometimes i tell them, āitās hard work, but i really love what i doā and it feels good to say!! i donāt have to self-flagellate for a stranger who just told me that they could āneverā do what i do and make myself a martyr
iām being honest but iām highlighting the best parts of my job instead of highlighting the worst partsāand i find myself a lot happier when i repeat this process for all aspects of my life
i love my partner, i love my pets, i love my city, i love my job. there are always things to complain about but there are also always things to celebrate

Echoing a sentiment from Tyler, the Creator, where he tweeted for people to expand on what they liked about his songs and delve into the WHY (i.e the bridge, chords, riffs)
Truly believe itās so so important to be able to articulate why things bring us enjoyment, pleasure and giddiness, because that just makes way for one to obsess/ research and learn more about said thing!
This is basically a gratitude post for PI, I just love blagging about what makes this Little Life of Mine more bearable !!!

Not every idea is a good idea. But maybe a small part of it is, or maybe it can grow into one, or maybe it will lead to the next good idea, or maybe you just need to get all those lousy ideas out of the way so the good ones have room to breathe.
Or maybe it just feels good to write and this fixation on good vs bad ideas is the thing thatās in the way.
