Fishbowl is a classic parlor game where everyone writes down a few prompts on papers and mixes them up in a bowl. There are three rounds: 1) Taboo, try to get your team (or group) to guess the prompt without saying it 2) charades 3) players get a single, one word clue is used to get team members to guess the phrase/word on the paper. This game can be played different ways, but I typically like to split the group into two teams. Each team gets a minute to get as many cards as possible, then the other team gets a minute. The person who draws from the bowl changes with every swap of the team’s turn. Each correctly guessed prompt is a point. This continues until all the slips of paper are gone from the bowl. At the end of each round, all the prompts are put back in the bowl so that all players are already kind of familiar with these phrases going into a new round. And the team with the most points/cards at the end of all the rounds wins! This game has definitely created some interesting, new vernacular for my friend group, as the prompts can be literally anything. Plus, it’s very easy to learn/teach and only requires items found around your house.

sit in a circle, everyone has a piece of paper (and maybe everyone has a pen, or one pen that gets passed, and a surface to write on). the first person starts by writing a prompt - it can be simple, eg the name of a famous person, or a simple action, eg pumping gas, or it can be complicated, eg a famous person pumping gas and downing 5 fireball shots and vaping. they hand their piece of paper with the prompt to the person on their left, who then has to draw the prompt. they hand their drawing to the person on their left, who has to write down what they see. this repeats until it gets back to the person who wrote the original prompt, who reveals what they wrote and shows the group how it’s changed around the circle. it’s best with 6+ people, and great for all ages (as long as they can read and draw). one time i was playing with a group of my cousins and one cousin wrote “why am i here?” and we all had to go around and write then draw “why is (x) here?” and we all knew what it was because it was clear she didn’t really know or like us. we kept making her play games with us until she liked us more and 15 years later we’re going to her wedding this week so let’s just say this game changes lives and brings families closer?

me and my friends play “what’s in my bag?” at restaurants as a silly way to pass time. must have bag, preferably with multiple compartments We also play a game where we all try to rapid fire say the same word. So we all stand around in a circle, someone counts down, and then everyone says a word and then you look hard into each others’ eyes and say things like “I think we’re all on the same page” and “we’ve got it this time“ and then keep saying words until you all say the same one word. Sounds incredibly stupid but is amazingly fun. I recommend doing this outdoors with 3+ people. does this make sense??

Have a bowl set up somewhere (I always do the bathroom) with questions in it. they can be funny, they can be earnest, they can be whatever your heart desires but just have a shit ton of them written out in the bowl. Have your guests answer them throughout the night. Bonus points if you can have an iPad by the bowl so people can record their answers - i always get lots of laughs out of watching them the next day. Also throw youtube karaoke on your tv

Sorry to use a pretentious word like cinephile, but it had to be done. This is for the friend groups who take forever to decide what to watch on movie night. Also, this app is very much for the chronically indecisive peeps who have a backlogged watchlist on Letterbox — I see you, I am you. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this free app, but it is essentially a site where you can keep track of movies/shows you’ve been meaning or wanting to watch. A Few Features I Like: - It can be set up to notify you when something on your list becomes available on any streaming platform you’re subscribed to - you can sort your list by exactly what you’re in the mood for (genre, length of film, decade of release) - easy importation of watch lists from other sites or sources (Letterboxd) - My FAVORITE part by far is the spinny wheel that helps you choose something to watch (either from your list, preferences, or what’s currently popular)
