I am short and generally bubbly, so people always assume that I am younger than my actual age (which is wild to me). One time a few years ago, someone came to my door and asked me if my parents were homeā¦my tattoos were highly visibleā¦ I said no and wasnāt lying š¤·āāļø
When my son was first born, I had to bring something to my husbandās work, and the dad of a client asked who the teenage mother was (It was me, I was 31 lol).

Everyone assumes I'm much younger than I am, so what do I do when I find someone's treating me like a teenager? I lie & tell them I'm 10 years older than I actually am or sometimes that I have a son named Carlitos- this one I use ONLY when the other person starts talking about their own kids- to relate to them ya know? When I was younger I used to have a lot of people thinking I was really scary or standoffish, but I was actually just shy and autistic. I didnāt have many friends at uni and on the last department party I was drunk with people on my course and they were telling me how they thought I was too cool and edgy for them and I was like āI didnāt really have many friends and I mostly sat aloneā and they were like we all thought you had cool friends outside of uni and were really sorry. But that is what I get for wearing corsets to lectures and having half my head shaved and then purple hair! more recently and throughout my life people have often seen me as very serious or miserable because they only see my work, and are surprised to know Iām actually a silly goose whose pretty funny on occasion.

I'm 23 and teach undergrads. It's bound to happen, I know. I used to feel some type of way about it, but now I don't really mind. My students are really cool.

This has become the norm and every day I grow more disturbed. I understand if somebody is behaving in a harmful way, that is good to document and put out there. But as a whole, it seems, we have become so comfortable with recording people just living their lives. I saw a video of a guy working and the caption of the video was that he was so hot, we needed to find him!!! Why are you providing the Internet with his face and location instead of just going up to talk to him? I saw another of two people on the subway, seemingly a couple, having a very emotional moment. How would you feel if you open up an app and saw a video like that of yourself? I donāt like this level of sibling society surveillance. Why are you videoing an elderly person with sad music dubbed over it to gain likes? It is WEIRD. Donāt even get me started on videos of children. It is WEIRD to use a stranger without their consent to get some kind of fake validation. Get a life.
I donāt mean to come on here and share something so negative, I just donāt have anywhere else to put it and itās gnawing at me.
