this book permanently changed the way i view the world. it’s a book that combines the indigenous viewpoint with a more scientific one as the author is a Potawatomi botanist. it is such a beautifully written and insightful book that i’m sure you’ll enjoy even if you aren’t into all that nature/biology stuff (although that would help). 100/10 would absolutely recommend

This book infused more essence into my life in the three small days it took me to read it, and this is a book I will be returning to frequently. Like Maggie Nelson’s Bluets. They impress upon me similar feelings of awe and connectedness, both have given me that a-ha, Eureka! feeling. To feel understood, to feel read by the book you are reading, to feel like you were called to it at the time you most needed it, is a very lovely phenomenon that has happened only several true times in my life. This is one of them.

like actually talking to it. really connecting. not just using it. listening, asking questions, dialoguing. “what does this feel like?” “do you like this?” “does this feel bad?” “are you okay” “im sorry i didnt listen” ”you are right lets go eat” etc.

this is what i call those rare moments of deep understanding around significant life changes. like when something is super super hard and you’re struggling and its heavy but then there is this massive chasm in your heart and it feels like god just struck you with a lightening bolt of truth and you feel so much lighter. thats a god moment.
