You always read about how musical masterpieces where panned or misunderstood or received middling reviews in their day but not Boléro - it was a sensation when it premiered and it still slaps. Incredible example of repetition, propulsion, building a heightened sense of anticipation with essentially one melody and rhythm throughout the entire piece. His works for piano are my favorite but I love this piece. I think this might be my favorite classical “greatest hits”.
