I have been on the internet from such a young age, probably younger than I should have been allowed. Iā€˜ve always found myself immersed in online communities such as Discord and stan twitter (not my proudest moment), but itā€™s been a while since Iā€™ve done that. An online community was crucial to me growing up, especially during lockdown, and I guess it will always seem to be something I crave. Itā€™s only been a few days since Iā€˜ve joined and theres already familiar characters I see frequently on this site. It feels very reminiscent of the old community I had on stan twitter without the toxicity, which I appreciate now that I have grown up.

Yesss omg the stan twitter times šŸ˜šŸ‘! Iā€™m so glad youā€™re finding joy and familiarity on this app since youā€™ve joined. When it comes to internet friends, just being apart of a community or group that resonates with your life is so important. I have found that I am amble to smile when I read so many peopleā€™s thoughts. ugh I feel so warm at times. thank you for you response <3

Been finding myself spend more and more time online in niche Discord communities, like the PI.FYI book club and some music related groups. smaller communities means people are more likely to handle disagreements like adults (or leave), no algorithms so toxic waste doesnā€™t get promoted for eNgAgEmEnT or whatever, and normal folks talking about genuinely cool stuff they like. itā€™s nice! the other plus side is some of the bigger ā€œviralā€ events make it into those spaces occasionally so Iā€™m not totally culturally insulated, but Iā€™m also not frantically trying to figure out more about Todayā€™s Main Character like I used to on Twitter/X. just some nice spaces I get choose when and how to engage with.

Iā€™ve become so passive on all other social media. I only sort of use instagram and TikTok. Someone on TT actually recommended this app (I should probably find him). I was interested because I felt like it was harder for me to find new music and I was hoping to find some good stuff, which I have! This has been a pleasant surprise. Iā€™m so grateful for this space. I havenā€™t had random internet friends for a long time, and I didnā€™t even realize how much I missed it! I love connecting over shared interests and ideas. I love that I can be as anonymous as I want. Iā€˜ve only been here a few weeks and feel itā€™s brought with it fresh creativity. Personally, Iā€™m more home bound than ever before, so this is my equivalent to getting out and socializing with people (which I still do IRL, just not daily in this way). Thanks for being my friends!! šŸ’—

I continue to miss the feeling, novelty and overall fun of the old internet and this is just what I needed, and what the internet as a whole needed.

Why is this such a lost art? Bring together those friends that would never have met other wise. Make the people you love, love each other. I recently had a small birthday wine n dine with my friends and anticipated awkwardness between my different groups of friends, but it was the complete opposite. God I love my friends and love making a space for them to mingle and laugh in eeeee. I think in a time where my friends and I are transitioning to adulthood and focusing on careers, this brings something to look forward to and a way to create a world outside of work and study.
