You never need a subscription service if you actually just own copies of your favourite media. I will admit moving is hard though.

I keep digital copies of all my physical media but nothing beats that sweet sweet vinyl feel or buying a crappy Philips CD/Radio from Goodwill

If you go to a library and submit your as account with Libby you can access their physical media digitally and just keep borrowing it forever for free because there's no limit on digital borrowing. Kind of a weird workaround but I thought it worth mentioning!

as well as us not having to pay anything, it also supports artists further. did you know that one stream on spotify equals to $0.003-$0.005? keep physical music alive and keep art afloat!!!!

The sad part is that “disk rot” is a thing, and VHS tapes don’t last forever. One wrong move and Vinyl is screwed. But still i believe that artist need to go back to physical media still. It’s not only better because no subscriptions, but it makes music more personal. You get a deeper connection with an artist when you buy more tangible things. We also need to bring back individuality in music. If you listen to music from the 70s, even if you listened to 2 bands of the same genre, it’s sounds different. it’s still the same category but they took more time to build a sound. It’s rare today that you get artists that sound different.

you will be sad if your favourite movie disappears from the internet forever. have a backup. also if you love something having it physically in your possession is a tremendous feeling

Why stream movies online when you can spend even more money and take up even more space with an exhaustive collection of blu-rays, dvds, and for the truly committed, reels of 16mm film. Trust me fellas, nothing gets a lady randier than when she sees you have the vast majority of the Criterion Collection arranged against your bedroom wall. Ideally physical media should be paid for with your parents money, but if you are a so-called "self sufficient adult" it's also acceptable to purchase these movies with your own hard-earned cash. And if anyone is to question your propensity for accumulating the aforementioned objects in question, just remind them of how the bit-rate and sound compression is vastly superior then what you get through streaming. When in doubt, always remember the bit-rate!

After seeing that Spotify donated $150000 to the trump inauguration, pay artists nothing and replaced thousands of staff with AI I think it’s time for me to step away from the app even though it’s painfully convenient, I would rather use an mp3 player and purchase albums from artists on bandcamp (which isn’t perfect either) but at least a larger percentage of that money will go to the actual artists. I feel like 2025 is the year of choosing ethics over convenience because what is convenient for us is usually at the expense of others.

I’ve recently read a book about the concept of “soundwalking” and listening to the beauty of your surroundings exploring your city and neighborhood. I used to become pretty over stimulated by the sounds of the world and would used my headphones religiously to block any sounds of the outside world from getting in. But I started to wonder if the things I use to protect myself from the outside world also isolating me from experiencing it to its fullest potential. Maybe the sounds of construction and people talking and birds and busses aren’t just “sound pollution“ but a reverberation of society and life. An organic inprov performance just for me where I am right now in the world. it made me think that anything has the potential to be a work of art depending on your perspective. I’ve started walking with a tape recorder everywhere I go and I record the sounds around me as an auditory diary of sorts. it’s fun to listen back and be reminded of the sounds of the bowling alley or the cafe or the sound check at the punk show. Since this perspective shift I’ve become allot less over stimulated by the world and become more creative with my greatest resource: the world around me.
