I haven’t been on Twitter for years and hardly touch FB, but I had been an active user on Instagram since 2012. I really like taking and sharing photos, and that had always been a fun place to do it. No more. With the changes the content moderation changes they’re making, leaving LGBTQ+ folks vulnerable to be targeted; their rolling back of DEI programs; their willing participation in far-right rhetoric and politics; it’s all too much and I’m out. As if Meta’s platform hadn’t already been increasingly enshittified, this was the final straw to announce how much worse it will get. And you know what? It feels freeing. Better to leave it behind and find new platforms to connect with people.

It felt great to delete mine. Even ignoring metas politics, Instagram did nothing but make me stupid and anxious, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

_kzr_ Agreed. I’d been using ScreenZen to limit my IG use to small little windows because it mostly made me anxious or sad or was just a suck on my time. The politics and decline of moderation was the final push to go, “Dude, this is only going to get worse. What are you even doing on here?”

I agree! Deleted Twitter and fb still have Instagram but only using my small account and updated my ad preference/ privacy and data settings. im so glad I found this app because it feels like what socials were meant to be no propoganda and adds being shoved in my face just connecting with other people and seeing normal day to day experiences I love it here

i just deleted mine today 😭 made me sad because its honestly been a great space to connect with people. but i’m hoping that i’ll actually be more open to straightforward one-on-one connection without it! no more snooping on peoples stories and feeling connected to others without effort, etc. glad to see other people are deleting too ❤️

mayaday That’s where I am too. IG has helped me connect with a lot of people but it’s also enabled me to be very passive in many relationships too. I’m hoping that enough of us will leave that it shifts how we choose to connect, not whether we connect. Given how wired we are for connection, I have faith that we’ll find each other again.

I did the exact same thing, and came here! Instagram has always had this weird social pressure to it and I found myself obsessed with people watching me and getting likes. it was getting exhausting and after the meta thing I was done.

I honestly think it’s time to say “fuck Instagram” and move on. Instead of trying to change a platform that’s built on control and endless mind-numbing content, why not migrate to spaces that truly support your needs and help you form real connections? For me, it’s not about staying and “fighting back” in an environment that just isn’t working—it’s about choosing a community that aligns with my values and where i can genuinely grow. I deleted my instagram account a few months ago and it feels incredible. I think we all deserve better.

hello :) it’s been a while since i’ve used this app. i decided to log back in b/c i just deactivated my social media accounts. with the tik-tok ban coming up, i made the decision to not only delete tik-tok but also twitter. fuck zuck and elon. it’s disappointing to leave behind the pockets on the internet that i considered my community. i didn’t deactivate my insta b/c i have a ton of memories from there. i’ve been posting on insta since the 8th grade haha. so there’s a ton of sentimental stuff on there. the app is deleted from my phone and i privated it. it’ll now be like a museum/archive since i won’t use it. i’m not anti social media myself, i love the community aspect of social media and sharing my interests with like minded individuals. hence why i returned to this app. i’ll prob post a lot more on here (or not) i’ll see. but i’m honestly getting sick of tech bros ruining things for everyone else :/

Generally speaking, I wanna reorganize the way I use the internet. I wanna participate and interact with people. I feel like on Instagram I’ve been worrying too much about the mystique I create for myself, like I’m constantly advertising myself. It feels icky and I’m ready to give it up.

The guy got my attention with, “Hey, I like your shoes.” Just like that, he had me. We talked about where I bought the shoes and how I used to work in the shoe industry. He used to work in the beer industry but had recently become independently wealthy because of an investment opportunity he started with a few of his friends. ”You get to be your own boss,” he told me. Your boot could be on your own neck. We’re back to the topic of shoes. He told me it’s a small investment to get started but things are really taking off and I could get in on the ground floor. I could quit my job. Work for myself. Had I ever considered doing something like that? “No,” I said with a shrug. I walked away with my jar of peanut butter. I can’t remember if it was creamy or crunchy. Probably crunchy. Nice guy!

In its heyday in the 1100s, Cahokia — located across the Mississippi river from modern-day St Louis — was the center for Mississippian culture and home to tens of thousands of Native Americans who farmed, fished, traded and built giant ritual mounds. Cahokia had a population between 15,000 - 20,000 people. That’s believed to be larger than contemporaneous London and Paris! So before you get all, “Oh man, America sucks cuz it’s so new and doesn’t have any history.” WRONG! It’s just not European, white people history! People were here and they were building things and sneaking into the city to go to the club! America (the modern day, Imperialist country) does suck though. Sorry.
