The guy got my attention with, “Hey, I like your shoes.” Just like that, he had me. We talked about where I bought the shoes and how I used to work in the shoe industry. He used to work in the beer industry but had recently become independently wealthy because of an investment opportunity he started with a few of his friends. ”You get to be your own boss,” he told me. Your boot could be on your own neck. We’re back to the topic of shoes. He told me it’s a small investment to get started but things are really taking off and I could get in on the ground floor. I could quit my job. Work for myself. Had I ever considered doing something like that? “No,” I said with a shrug. I walked away with my jar of peanut butter. I can’t remember if it was creamy or crunchy. Probably crunchy. Nice guy!

taterhole Thank you! I feel like it’s the kind of story I’d tell at a dinner party with friends. I feel like that’s my best venue.

Maybe I’ll be modeling for a local shop? Have I ever modeled before? No but who cares. so I wrote to them. They will meet with another girl today and if it doesn’t work out, theyll contact me again. But I am already on their list for future things. Who would’ve thought? not me. So just do it. Apply. You’d be suprised how often it works out

definitely not! Speaking from personal experience - I went from totally fucking off (working like 10hrs a week) to working as a carpenter for years. Then I got interested in random shit online and made the leap from carpentry to working in marketing/jack of all trades for tech experiments and companies. I was 25 when I made the leap from carpentry to what I do now. I had no clue what the fuck was going to happen. I just felt like it was the right leap to make.

I can’t really share any specific details but I’m gasping and scandalized on a regular basis.  I will say that once I got to overhear an outlandishly wealthy person talking about geopolitics and investment outlooks several years before things relating to what they talked about popped off and it kind of broke my brain a little bit and made me feel skeptical of media narratives.  If I told you more I’d have to kill you 😔 Once I was pretty sure I uncovered an international sex trafficking ring related to a flop beauty pageant I had never heard of and fell down a Google search rabbit hole about it but I didn’t really do anything about it. In the course and scope of my employment I’ve heard about a lot of people being killed or grievously injured by motorcycle wrecks even with the proper protective equipment and precautions and defensive driving.  had their scalps ripped off and their leg bones rip through their skin etc so I would say don’t ride a motorcycle. In another life I worked as a hostess at a restaurant which was a job my (niche famous post-punk musician) boss made up for me because he was a client of my dad and liked the way I dressed/thought I was cool.   Because there was only one hostess people would often ask me if I was his wife or the wife of the chef and I always had to laugh.   My coworkers always asked me if I had OCD because I would regularly wash my hands according to food safety guidelines.  One of my coworkers (who had a tattoo in honor of our boss) had a nosebleed and left a long trail of blood all through the restaurant which I noticed and cleaned up.  He was so grateful that I did it like I did it as a personal favor to him but I was just mortified at the idea of customers seeing it.  I worked at a farmers market and after I left it was discovered that the farmers market manager had been embezzling money and she died not too long after because it turned out she had cancer… so maybe that’s why she did that.  This is another silly workplace story I shared on here recently about my job at a vintage costume rental shop combination antique bookstore combination dance studio.

I haven’t been on Twitter for years and hardly touch FB, but I had been an active user on Instagram since 2012. I really like taking and sharing photos, and that had always been a fun place to do it. No more. With the changes the content moderation changes they’re making, leaving LGBTQ+ folks vulnerable to be targeted; their rolling back of DEI programs; their willing participation in far-right rhetoric and politics; it’s all too much and I’m out. As if Meta’s platform hadn’t already been increasingly enshittified, this was the final straw to announce how much worse it will get. And you know what? It feels freeing. Better to leave it behind and find new platforms to connect with people.

In its heyday in the 1100s, Cahokia — located across the Mississippi river from modern-day St Louis — was the center for Mississippian culture and home to tens of thousands of Native Americans who farmed, fished, traded and built giant ritual mounds. Cahokia had a population between 15,000 - 20,000 people. That’s believed to be larger than contemporaneous London and Paris! So before you get all, “Oh man, America sucks cuz it’s so new and doesn’t have any history.” WRONG! It’s just not European, white people history! People were here and they were building things and sneaking into the city to go to the club! America (the modern day, Imperialist country) does suck though. Sorry.
