if i'm not on a time crunch, i will always try to hand write the first draft of all my creative writing projects. this makes me take it slower, think more about the words i'm putting down. it also acts as the first round of editing whenever i type it into my computer so i'm one step closer to a finished project. there's some so much more satisfying about being able to look at the progress made on a story that is hand written rather than typed in a computer.

I've gone back to handwriting first drafts recently and it feels so much better. I'll pick up my laptop if my thoughts are moving faster than my pen can keep up with, but the connection between my thoughts and the words on the page feels much more authentic when there's no screen involved.

yagababa yes!!! i think as we grow into adulthood there's so much pressure to do everything with speed in mind that we forget we can do things slower and more simply. sometimes our teenage selves had it more figured out than our adult selves.

yes typing is easier but to draft out a poem first go in poor handwriting on a tiny notebook you’ve used for years is a godsend

may seem trivial, but this helps me feel more confident in the things I write down and encourages a more positive self-image of my brain. also, it’s not that hard. you basically just need to slow down.

this idea of "you don't owe anyone anything" came about through the social media therapists that try to diagnose complete strangers with a multitude of issues and complexes. all it has done has made selfish people more selfish and divided us as a community. you do not owe everyone everything, but if you consider yourself part of a community, a society, you do owe everyone something. at a base level you owe people kindness, respect (as long as they haven't lost the right to it), and basic human decency. you owe your loved ones even more. stop being selfish and rude in the name of treating your so-called "people pleasing."

if one more person tells me to turn one of my hobbies into a business i'm gonna go berserk. is nothing sacred in this late stage capitalist hellscape?

oscar wilde said, "If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but what I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward." i remind myself of this quote every time i get jealous of my friends who have it all figured out.
