Listening to really fast jazz and instrumental rock jams somehow matches the speed my brains going and everything clicks - it gives me an extra kick of dopamine to help me get through whatever task I’m doing and and entertains/distracts me from getting distracted by everythjng else going on outside my brain and lets me just focus on the task at hand. I get less sidetracked bc I’m already entertained by the music and therefore am not looking for other external sources of dopamine while doing something I don’t like doing like homework. I love phish and yussef dayes for this. and adderall

it drowns out distractions .. I also already listen to the same song when I study so this is probably better .. it has the effect on me I feel classical music does for others but with higher stakes

If you have a computer job, nothing passes the time like putting on an album. Throw something on, no skips, no complaining, just listening until its done and 45min-1hr has passed. I also like to set challenges for myself to not repeat stuff I am listening to. Last couple of months, Rate Your Music has been pretty valuable for finding stuff to listen to, like the highest rated Brazilian Pop albums and checking them out. I have been logging a list of stuff I have been checking out here.

I get the most out of “Wristwatch,” with its descending riffs giving way to Xandy’s pedal steel on top of the guitar lead. The lyrics open with “So you say I’ve got a funny face/It makes me money” which conjures up a character misquoting Quiet Riot’s 1983 cover of Slade’s “Cum on Feel the Noize.” Lenderman excels at characters that come across as guys not getting it right, low-key committed to not quite understanding. A denseness, a hapless but easily seen wrongheadedness. Doubling down on not wising up.
