hello! i think this is a good project for you to do and with the time you have to finish, i think you can accomplish it. while i havenā€™t sewn anything this extravagant yet i think if you put your mind to it, it will come great. tips from my own experiences: šŸ§µ choose fabric carefully not sure where you are with hand sewing, but thereā€™s so much that makes life easier when you get the right fabric, needle, and machine attachments. personally i have stuck to non stretch fabrics (mostly cotton) for my projects because itā€™s easy to work with and you really just need to straight stitch. if you want to use some other material, you should research what needle, stitch, and machine attachments work best with it and practice first šŸ§µ go slow with your project when you rush things go awry. pace yourself throughout the months when you are making this. sometimes that looks like having one day devoted to assembling the pattern and cutting out the pieces, next time itā€™s starting the sewing. for example, i had a cosplay i made on and off for 2 weeks because i wanted to make sure it was fine a few days before the convention. šŸ§µ draft the dress it says for this pattern listing this is a drar-at-home one. i think before you make the real thing, you may want to draft this with some other cloth to get the vibe first. šŸ§µvideos, videos, videos i think my saving grace was also getting inspired by people sewing online and finishing their stuff. looking at your pattern of choice, thereā€™s a YouTuber i watch named Cindy Leaux who makes a few advanced pieces like this one. she may offer some inspo and encouragement along the way. šŸ§µ get the seam ripper in the case of you messing up, seam rippers will most likely not damage the fabric so much. get one to save yourself from any mishaps with the thread šŸ§µ **extra note ** šŸ§µ i didnā€™t look fully in the pattern but you mentioned something about a corset. i am not sure if this is something you are wearing under the dress or adding to it, but i will say i have done boning before and itā€™s doable. you just need to mark out your technique beforehand

Find the manual for the sewing machine online so you know what features it has, then just go one project at a time. I found it most helpful to learn by doing- slowly acquiring skills as I went along instead of reading or watching all encompassing explanations. I would learn just enough to like, take in the waistband or hem a shirt how I wanted, and after a while learned the names for those stitches or technique. keep it fun and intuitive! got too excited by this ask - i taught myself to tailor starting from childhood, sewing anything and everything by hand. such a rewarding skill to have! have fun!!

itā€™s easier than it seems if u get a pattern and take ur time. clothes are constructed in such specific ways that once u know why something does what it does ull be able to find off the rack stuff that you like so much easier just by seeing how itā€™s built. plus then you can also more easily repair ur stuff! itā€˜s a crucial skill n itā€™s wild how many people dont know how what theyre wearing was sewn

As a child growing up with brothers and as the fat black kid, i never considered myself feminine. Even when i lost weight in middle school and went to an all girls high school, looking girly or being more ā€œfeminineā€ was just not something i thought about. I feel like recently, i wanted to explore that more, as this pull to dress and appear more feminine has become super strong. Having a house to decorate in any way I can, actually starting to feel better about my body to wear skirts again, etc has really influenced me. But my fears are that it may portray trad wife or childā€™s play; Iā€™m nervous of stares or being questioned about my views if i were to give such a strong appearance of a girly woman. But some of my inspirations have been strolling through vintage creators and small japanese insta accounts with super pink and fluffy aesthetics. Hopefully i will build up the courage

i saw something a tad bit politically upsetting this morning through a reposted TikTok, and when i looked up the story in the news, what the TikTok said about this political issue could not be substantiated, but only implied and rumored. Iā€™m kinda peeved because short form media has really allowed people to become media illiterate and spread things that are either lies or unsupported claims, because they know people arenā€™t going to read a 3-4 paragraph article on a news site and disseminate information on their own. Something I have learned in therapy is to kinda look at more things in life as neutral, and not go into black and white thinking before making a decision. Take time to act on something (when itā€™s possible) and take things at face value most days. Being in an elevated state of emotion when doing something is not usually good. I just wish other people could do that today, because sometimes it feels like Iā€™m the only person in my realm who can.
