They’re trying to bring back personal sites like Geocities and Angelfire. You don’t have to learn HTML before you start, you can learn as you go - I did! People have made free-to-use templates with instructions for how to modify them. Coding your own website is so fun, you can make pages about literally anything you want and make it look however you want! For example, I have a page about my favorite musician with biography, news, album review, and video library sections. Like I said, literally anything you want! :D

It’s a revival of the old web GeoCities, so you’ll have to learn code from scratch, but there are lots of cool resources out there that can help you get started. It’s free, open-source, and a very creative and wholesome community! The best part is that it doesn’t have to look flashy and cool; it can look imperfect but still have an aesthetic appeal that adds to the nostalgic old web vibes 🙂

been on neocities experimenting a little and
1) it's so fun seeing other people's sites???? they're so creative and cool and inspire me a ton
2) it's such a fun way to spend 3 hours uninterrupted just Making something. looking up yt tutorials and kicking that index.html file. cus sometimes u just need to make stuff man
3) it's a kickass long term project to occupy ur freetime, teaches u a useful skill, and allows u to showcase ur work especially if ur a creative?
4) it's free???? to some extent at least -if ur using a free host (like neocities) and don't need a ton of memory space
overall lovely thing to get engrossed in. would recommend :)

I think it’s becoming more common of a hobby with the advent of Neocities but still obscured by the shadow of social apps. Unlike apps, the only limit to expressing yourself is your own imagination 🥹

Big rec from me… my college boyfriend wouldn’t stop reading my journals so I invented a new alphabet to journal in (not the correct solution I know but whatever). that problem no longer applies to me obviously, and I don’t consider it to be as dire, but I still like using the alphabet - when I want to journal on the train and feel self conscious about it, or just for fun. It is also a neat excuse to think about language, and it’s pretty :—3 if you have done anything similar ever please drop an image I want to see what yours looks like !
