wake up later & sleep earlier get a sunrise alarm clock if you need to rise earlier than the real sun think of it as hibernating — give into the extra rest and coziness your body craves and your mind/soul/emotions will follow suit (for the most part…..obvi seasonal depresh is a natural thing, but it sounds like you have a good handle on it!)

If you’re anything like me, your body feels completely separate from your mind, which feels completely separate from your heart, and most of your internal dialogue is you getting mad at yourself for doing some shit that another part of you disapproves of. Every part of us matters, but if we’re often neglecting one of these guys it’s definitely the vessel that houses this mess to begin with. Your body needs sleep bro! You’d be surprised at how many of these voices start to quiet when you actually let your body do its thing once in a while and decide when it wants to wake up. And you can’t feel an ounce of guilt for not setting an alarm, otherwise this whole experiment is negated. If you really wanna wake up early, then go to bed early (I’m leaving this piece of advice in writing so I can finally learn it myself).

You gotta get sun in the morning to start your day right, then get sun in the middle of the day (peak sun), and then get sun as its setting. This is important to tell your eyeballs and also brain when to be awake and when to start getting sleepy. It’s been nice spending a lot of time outside (as a street dude doing 1000 things in one day) lately, and I’m thinking in the winter I might start hitting the tanning beds in order to preserve my base layer of melanin.  It’s also good to go to sleep at the same time every night. If you go to sleep and wake up at the same time every night, it’ll really help a lot. Tough to do if you’re chilling, but life is often about tolerating contradictions.  Also, how about this new Drake called Circadian Rhythm?

I use an analog alarm clock at my bedside and a sunrise lamp that makes my body feel like the day has started even tho in the middle of winter on the mid Atlantic she has yet to make an appearance. drink a glass of water (I recommend a small glass with a lid and straw) before my feet find the floor. tea + yoga as the sun rise

at least casually. don’t delete the accounts but don’t have the apps on your phone either. rediscover your love of reading thru the magic of recognizing titles strangers are holding on the subway. become a subway reader. don’t use sound as an escape from your thoughts/feelings/surroundings. grocery shopping without headphones is actually kind of beautiful! pick up a new hobby or two or three. one of them should be something you’re not good at, and at least one should be no- or low-cost. never. stop. learning. the library, the parks and rec department, and nearby museums offer great materials already but also usually have free lectures or courses. go outside more. like, a lot more. (took this much less literally, so apologies if it’s not what you’re looking for lol — as a narcoleptic I have no tips on how to Not Sleep since Sleep is basically my job)
